BIO

Merridith Allen is a writer, actress, martial artist, yogini and story consultant extraordinaire, residing in New York City.

Merridith’s plays have been produced by The Manhattan Repertory Theatre, The Provincetown Theater, The Hudson Guild Theatre, and The Dorothy Strelsin Theatre as part of the Midtown International Theatre Festival.  Her play, “The House of Fallen Snow,” was a finalist in The Strawberry International One-Act Festival, and will be published next year.  Other publication credits include a ten minute play in Northern Light, a literary journal through Edinburgh University, and work featured in the upcoming 2011-2012 Best Women’s Stage Monologues and Scenes, through Smith & Kraus publishers.

As a martial artist, Merridith has been practicing in multiple disciplines for the past 20 years.  She is a shidoshi (certified teacher) in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, and teaches this discipline as well as self-defense classes for women and college students.  Every year, Merridith travels to Japan and around the country to train with master teachers to further her martial education.

As a yogini, Merridith began her studies in 2003 after a shoulder injury left her unable to raise her arms above her head.  Now, after 9 years, completing a 200 hour certification in vinyasa yoga, therapeutic chair yoga and hot core power yoga, not only can she raise her arms over her head, but she’s working on handstand and all sorts of other things doctors told her she’d never be able to do.  Currently, Merridith teaches privately, donation group yoga classes and is working on her own course combining martial arts and yoga. (Stay tuned for details, there will be weapons involved)

Perhaps the biggest joy in Merridith’s life is sharing her knowledge, experience and ideas with others.  Please check the news/events page for all of her upcoming seminars, workshops, classes, and productions.
